The initiative is led by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. GIZ is a public-benefit federal enterprise for international cooperation. We work as a federal enterprise under private law. Our aim is to achieve the development-policy objective of improving the living conditions of people worldwide and conserving the natural resources on which livelihoods depend.

Website Analytics

For statistical purposes and to improve our service, our website uses the web analysis service Matomo (former PIWIK). No other use is made of the data, and the data are not passed on to third parties. The following information is stored for each page you view and each file you download:

  • Technical details of the browser used
  • Anonymous IP address
  • Date and time
  • Page opened/name of the file downloaded
  • Quantity of data transferred
  • Notification of whether viewing or download was successful

To carry out this web analysis, Matomo uses temporary session cookies each time you view an individual page, to make navigation easier. Cookies are small text files that are stored locally in your browser cache. Session cookies do not include any personal data and expire at the end of each session, or after the completion of a user survey, which is conducted as a rule every two years.

The information generated by these cookies, such as time, place and frequency of your visits to our site, including your IP address, are transmitted to our Matomo server and stored there. As part of this process, your IP address is immediately anonymized so that you as user remain anonymous to us. Session cookies do not include any personal data and expire at the end of each session, or after the completion of a user survey, which is conducted as a rule every two years. We do not use methods such as Java applets or ActiveX controls that make it possible to track your browsing behaviour.

You can prevent cookies from being installed by adjusting the settings on your browser software accordingly. You should be aware, however, that by doing so you may not be able to make full use of all the functions of our website.

Data is processed based on Art. 6 paragraph 1 f) of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) with the legitimate interest of analysing usage to improve the company’s website.

Should you be unwilling to have this data about your use of the site stored and analyzed, you may at any time subsequently withdraw your consent to it being stored and used with a click of the mouse. A so-called opt-out cookie is then placed on your browser, and as a result Matomo will no longer collect any data on your visits.

Please be aware that, should you delete cookies from your browser settings, the opt-out cookie from Matomo may also be deleted and will need to be reactivated.

Notes regarding objection

Should you be unwilling to have the data about your use of the site stored and analyzed, you may at any time subsequently withdraw your consent with a click of the mouse. A so-called opt-out cookie is then placed on your browser, and as a result Matomo will no longer collect any data on your visits.

In order for the objection to take effect, the cookie must be stored on every device used. As the cookie is stored in specific browsers (internet programs), the cookie must be stored in every browser if several browsers are used on one device (e.g. Internet Explorer, Chrome, Mozilla Firefox). Please also note that, if you delete all cookies, the objection cookie will also be deleted and will need to be stored again.

Contact form

When you use the contact form, we process your title, first and last names and email address. The data is processed based on Art. 6 paragraph 1 b) of the EU GDPR for the purpose of receiving the query formulated in the contact form.

Newsletter / Mailing lists

Any personal details collected as part of the press mailing list subscription will only be used for the purpose of processing the subscription and dealing with your enquiries. Your details will not be passed onto third parties. No use will be made of your details for consulting purposes, for advertising or for market research.

If you cancel your subscription, all your personal details will be deleted from our database. Postal addresses and email addresses that you provide when you make an enquiry or order information materials are used exclusively for correspondence or delivery purposes. When you use other web-based services that require the submission of more extensive personal data, such as online job applications or registration for training courses, the data protection declarations adapted to those services will also apply.

Duration of data retention

Personal data are regularly deleted when

  • They are no longer needed for contractual purposes (e.g. for employment, top-ups, rental, sale or service contracts)
  • When the individuals concerned have not given any separate authorisation
  • When statutory data storage obligations and periods have expired
Reference to user rights

You are entitled:

  • to object to data processing,
  • enquire about your personal data and its processing
  • to have this corrected if necessary, or to request restriction of processing or the erasure of the data
The data will then be erased.
